The Barking Spider has put down its Scottish flag and heroically claimed the title of the first Scottish pub in Medellín.
This is a bold claim, not least because of the existing presence of Pub Escocia in Parque Lleras, but also because the barking mad owner has simultaneously put down the English flag and hasn't ruled out an Irish one either.
But then why not, unlike its tame competitor, the Barking Spider really does take you back to Blighty with a pool table, dartboard and traditional bar stools. In fact, with lots of catchy pop tunes, it's so reminiscent of Blighty at times, you may remember why you left in the first place.
That said, the Barking Spider embraces the balance of forces at play and one can see with the food menu an attempt to satisfy both foreign and local tastes. The food is excellent and anyone ordering pepper steaks, fish and chips or shepherds pie will be more than content.
It's clear with several large comics of Bustar Gonad on display, that other types of British cultural heritage do not get lost in translation. Indeed, toilet humour's veteran and his unfeasibly large testicles are universally appealing, perhaps particularly to the ladies.
All we need now is a bell for last orders and a pub brawl outside and the immersive experience will be complete.
