| Anyone with a dog will know that despite its greenery, Medellín doesn’t really do parks. Yet things may change if Parque Presidenta proves to be a successful prototype for inner city landscapes.
Another testament to the former mayor’s spirit of transformation, this park emerged to claim a space in some of the most prestigious land in El Poblado during what was a Beijing style building boom.
The park provides a picturesque walkway to Parque Lleras and includes a quaint river and bridge among its attractions.
Yet, it’s notable that Colombians still can’t get their head around the idea that people might actually want to sit or walk on grass - hence lots of wooden decking and benches.
Let us hope to see such wonders of nature also emerge in some of the poorer communities of Medellín where land is cheaper, demand higher and where the simple people might even contemplate sitting on grass. |
