Inspired by the Loire castles in France, this medieval, gothic castle was built around 1930 and shortly after became the country residence of Don Diego Echavarria Misas.
Don Diego wanted the property to be accessible to the general public and in 1971 it became a museum showcasing his collection of paintings, sculptures, china, cristal and furniture. Of equal interest, are the many personal belongings belonging to Don Diego's family which remain despite their absence.
Concerts, exhibitions and plays are now performed in Museo el Castillo's auditorium, while the grounds also play host to regular courses in painting, sculpture, ceramics and music.
Remarkably, there on no restrictions on people walking their dogs in the beautiful surrounding gardens. So long as you are willing to scoop the poop, your dog can roam free with his very own luxury castle in the heart of El Poblado. |
