It’s a sort of ski lift or cable car system that extends the city’s metro higher up into the mountains, where previously it was very time consuming for people to leave their community and seek work.

It also serves as a tourist attraction in its own right providing an interesting travel experience with a bird’s eye view of the neighbourhood and Medellín as a whole. 

There are currently 2 metrocables in operation.  The first is in Santa Domingo and the latest addition in Aurora. 

The former metrocable has the added bonus of the enourmous stone like buildings of Parque Biblioteca España, often referred to as giant loaves of bread or even invading spaceships.  Inside you can find a modern library, auditorium, day care centre and art gallery.

Just hop on the Metro de Medellín and head towards Acevedo in the north of the city (for Santa Domingo) or San Javier in the west (for Aurora).
