| First conceived as a possibility in 1979, with construction finally beginning in 1985, the metro system in Medellín finally opened in 1995.
Whilst there is still room for significant expansion, the Metro de Medellín is an excellent example of a modern day transport system that is air conditioned, clean, friendly, safe, cheap and with trains running every 3 minutes in peak hours, very efficient.
The trains operate at ground level, except for some areas in El Centro where they are higher up on viaducts. Either way, the Metro de Medellín provides some great views of Medellín and its almost iconic emerald green hills in the background.
To travel from one end to the other on the main line (Line A) takes 36 minutes. |
