The stunning bold and bright saturation of colour pays testament to a simple and happy way of life. The inner child that seems so prevalent in Colombian culture takes to the streets and is captivated for most of December and January. Los Alumbrados is a mesmerising month.

The sky becomes filled with UFO-like petrol fuelled balloons (Globos) that roam the valleys and beyond for weeks, with the occasional crash landing.  Technicolored buses weave their way through the night and ghostly trains appear filled with the silhouettes of dancing couples.
