| If you’re in the market for some sun and naturaleza, you could do far worse than embarking on a short trip to San Jerónimo and one of its many hosterías.
With a hot and humid climate, even if you are struck down by rain, you’ll likely enjoy a dip in the swimming pool, surrounded by green mountains and interspersed jungly bits.
Hosteria Porton de Occidente offers the usual mix of pools, saunas, billiard tables and a free lunch, all for a set fee of about 35,000 pesos per person.
Its smaller size makes it more intimate and personal compared with other hosterías, so you’re more likely to speak to the waiter about your lunch than queue up for a dreary buffet. Best of all, if you go early in the week, there’s a good chance you’ll have the whole place to yourself.
Bigger places are a short walk away and also offer some or all of horse riding, volley ball, fishing, water slides and pedal boats.
To get to San Jerónimo take a bus or taxi from terminal norte for no more than an hour. |
