Despite being three blocks from Fuego Cubano in Parque Lleras and its distinctive image of Fidel Castro, CHE restaurant bears no relation to Che Guevara.
And unlike the much-loved rebel, CHE restaurant is not seeking to become popular with the masses. Indeed, one might conclude that CHE's very mediocre pizza is a deliberate attempt to keep them away.
But, while CHE isn't out to impress, nor is it trying to create an exclusive venue. It has instead a loyal following of customers who over 40 years have almost become part of the family, now accompanied by their children and grandchildren.
CHE's stubbornness stems from this special bond and the knowledge that its famous Churasco served in several small intimate rooms accompanied by plenty of low-key Argentinean tango memorabilia is a successful recipe that doesn't need to change with the times.
